Ivanka Trump exclusive interview

Ivanka Trump has put pen to paper and published The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life. The daughter of one of the most famous billionaires in the world phones SheKnows from her New York City office where she serves as Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions at the Trump Organization.

Ivanka Trump's The Trump Card

Ivanka attended her father Donald Trump's alma mater, The Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, and then struck out on her own before securing the executive position at her father's company in her late twenties. The younger Trump speaks to the challenges, not only having to prove herself as a Trump, but also as a woman in the male-dominated field of real estate.

SheKnows: What in particular compelled you to write The Trump Card at this period of your life?

Ivanka Trump: For two reasons, I received a lot of correspondence after starting to appear on the Apprentice from parents who were inquiring how my parents instilled in us a sense of drive and work ethic -- both my brothers are doing a great job. I also received many parenting type of questions, which made me reflect a lot on decisions my parents made throughout my children and into young adulthood. Simultaneously I received a lot of letters from people's children asking basic career advice. Looking at the marketplace, there really isn't a source of information told from the viewpoint of somebody who remembers the anxiety of finding a new job -- someone who remembers the fear of graduating from college and joining a family business and someone who had the experience of working in a male dominated field.

SheKnows: It's a pretty empty section of reading materials…

Ivanka Trump: Most of the literature is either the story a 60-year-old man's career or the female experience shattering through the glass ceiling. Nobody was writing for a younger audience -- almost in a peer-to-peer older sister type of way.

SheKnows: When you finished the manuscript for The Trump Card, did you show it to family?

Ivanka Trump: I did, I gave everyone copies. But, I wanted this to be my musings. A lot of these stories are shared stories and experience from my parents. They, and my brothers, are very much a part of this book. I also wanted to reach out to individuals who I respect who come from different backgrounds.

Ivanka Trump: author, businesswomanSheKnows: Yes, the Bulletins from My BlackBerry section…

Ivanka Trump: Yeah, from Kathy Black to Russell Simmons, I ask them: what was the advice they were given early in their careers that had a profound affect on them going forward? I learned a lot through their answers.

SheKnows: What struck me most about the book and your story, Ivanka, is you could in any number of directions in your career. But you chose a path is not going to be easy, even with your last name.

Ivanka Trump: That's right. I believe my last name has afforded me a tremendous advantage and obviously there are challenges associated with that as well, but for the most part the privilege and advantage outweighs that. With that said, that gets your foot in the door, but to push it open and gain the respect of people within my industry, you know it takes a lot more than having a last name.

SheKnows: What do you think it is about your upbringing that you and your brothers were all driven to go into the business rather than a life of philanthropy or other endeavors?

Ivanka Trump: We wouldn't have had the option to enjoy an inheritance . We did not have trust funds growing up. We were never led to believe that we will be supported in living a life of luxury without purpose. Not that we had to go into the real estate industry, we could have been teachers and my parents would have been very happy. But, they certainly wouldn't have allowed us to spend our summers vacationing in St Tropez. My parents have been very careful to make sure that we didn't have a sense of entitlement that is so prevalent in children of privilege.

SheKnows: And children of all economic situations, really. It seems, these are challenging economic times, but it is also extraordinarily difficult for a young woman trying to get her foot in the door.

Ivanka Trump: I spend a considerable amount of time talking about basic interviewing skills because in speaking with my friends and interviewing young people, I realized often the simplest, most obvious things are overlooked. I talk quite a bit about how to make an impact in the interview process and how to maximize your chances, from the standpoint of someone who not too long ago was in the opposite seat -- when I was interviewing with companies prior to joining the family business. But also, I also talk about how to make an impact within your environment at work. Given today's economy, you have to be indispensable, otherwise you're dispensable. We all see what's happening in terms of layoffs and that's not somewhere you want to be.

Ivanka Trump easily recalls her modeling daysSheKnows: Lastly, they say everyone is replaceable, but how do you think you can set yourself apart and come close?

Ivanka Trump: They say the field of Normandy is filled with indispensable men. I think that there's a lot to that. But, I think that obviously, being young, you lack a certain level of experience which puts you in the category of less valuable. There are ways that we can do things to bridge that divide such as commitment to what we do. Taking on assignments that no one else will , showing your employer you're willing to step up to bat and be a team player. I go into the office every Sunday and I appreciate it when other people are there as well. I notice who those people are putting in the extra effort. You may not have the same level of experience, but that doesn't mean you can't work harder. It's also very important that the person making decisions knows the value of your contribution. I think too often, there's an assumption on the part of an employee that employer knows how and where they're committed. That's often not the case.

Ivanka Trump married sweetheart Jared Kushner over the weekend at a lavish fete hosted by The Donald himself.

Ivanka on her big dayWith so many celebrity deaths in the news lately, it's refreshing reporting on happier times like a celebrity wedding. This past weekend was just that as Ivanka exchanged vows with Kushner, the publisher of New York Observer.

The wedding took place at the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey in a beautiful ceremony. Ivanka wore a Vera Wang gown that was originally inspired by Grace Kelly. Their wedding punctuated the three month engagement with 500-plus guests including Regis Philbin.

Apparently Reege sang to the couple during the reception! Other notable guests included former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the current New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Although many of her fans weren't aware of the actual wedding date, on Saturday night she dropped hints that her big day was approaching.

She tweeted, "At a very casual 'rehearsal' dinner with friends -- just 5 of my lady friends and me having a casual dinner and getting excited."

Ivanka Trump wedding photosOn Sunday morning she woke to a workout and simply tweeted more information about the exciting day which was about to unfold. "Just finished a gorgeous hike. The leaves are spectacular and the sun is shining. Everything is simply perfect! I'm getting married today!"

Ivanka is the co-host of Celebrity Apprentice and a vice-president at her father's real estate company. Her husband is an executive at the Kushner Companies. The power couple released a few public photos while keeping most details about their wedding day private. Donald dished to People about his simple toast: "Be happy and enjoy your life."

News struck that Alyssa Milano and husband David Bugliari are expecting a baby. In fact, there seems to be a slew of new celebrity pregnancies. I'm afraid to drink the water here in Hollywood!

Alyssa Milano

Congratulations to Alyssa Milano and husband David Bugliari! They're expecting their first child. So where do you announce news like this? Twitter, of course.

Yesterday, Milano posted, "Yes, it's true. And we couldn't be happier. Thank you for your warm wishes and love!"

After her followers sent messages of congratulations, she said, "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes! I'm reading each one w/ big chunky tears in my eyes."

Chunky tears? I'm not sure what those are, but we couldn't be happier for her over here at SheKnows.

Milano remains one of the nicest celebs out there.

She's joining a ton of her Hollywood peers in the baby boat like Marion Cotillard, Jessica Alba, Ivanka Trump, Tia Mowry, Alicia Silverstone, Selma Blair, Kate Hudson, Jewel, Victoria Beckham and Jane Krakowski.

By the way, if you have any parenting Twitter feeds you like, send them over to her. She just tweeted, "Hey Twitter mommies, any good pregnancy/parenting Twitter accounts you can recommend? I'm going to make a list..."

Ivanka Trump stalker faces charges in NY

The man accused of stalking Ivanka Trump is facing new charges in New York after ignoring a restraining order.

Ivanka Trump - WENN

Justin Massler is facing newly upgraded charges after ignoring a court order to stay away from Ivanka Trump.

Massler was initially arrested last year after unleashing a string of horrifying emails and tweets about the Celebrity Apprentice co-host, including a threat to kill himself in her Manhattan jewelry store.

New York assistant district attorney Lucrece Francois told a judge that Massler also said he would die before being caught and "would go down in a hail of gunfire."

Massler's lawyer says the guy committed no crime and is guilty of nothing more than a bad sense of humor, but the 28-year-old has spent time in a mental hospital, had his name legally changed to Cloud Starchaser and gave his address to police as "a volcano in Hawaii."

After last year's arrest, "Cloud Starchaser" was released on $10,000 bail and was ordered not to contact Ivanka and some of her family -- but Massler kept trying to communicate with her, her husband and others close to her. He now faces felony criminal contempt charges and faces up to four years in prison.

Fishnets and bunny ears while pregnant? Ivanka Trump rocks it!

Ivanka Trump, her baby bump, fishnet stockings and a large pair of bunny ears have all gotten together for a photo shoot for Harper's Bazaar. The mother-to-be channeled one part pin-up girl and one part Playboy bunny for her sexy maternity photo shoot.

Ivanka Trump

While we can't imagine the pregnant Ivanka Trump typically includes fishnet stockings and high heels as part of her maternity wardrobe, we can say she looks absolutely fabulous in them!

The 29-year-old daughter of Donald Trump is pregnant with her first child and has revealed to Harper's Bazaar that the baby is a girl.

Harper's Bazaar posed a seven-months-pregnant Ivanka Trump against the New York skyline for their June issue. In the interview, which took place before Ivanka's father Donald Trump announced he will not be running for president, the sexy mama talked a mixture of politics and baby plans.

On daddy Donald Trump's run for office:

"I think he's exactly what we need," says Ivanka. "He's the best equipped to deal with the most important issues this nation has, which is ultimately that we're suffering under a massive burden of debt. We need a very acute financial mind to get us out of this mire."

"America is the largest corporation on the planet. You wouldn't hire a novice to run a similarly sized company in the private markets," she says.

As for her feelings about President Barack Obama, Ivanka says, "Of course [once he was elected] I wanted him to succeed, but he's proven to be a very ineffective leader. He has just not risen to the occasion. He doesn't have business experience or a business mind."

About that baby girl she's expecting with husband Jared Kushner:

"We both said we wanted to wait one year and just enjoy being newlyweds,"Ivanka Trump explains. "So we waited pretty much exactly that."

"Jared is ecstatic," she reports. "She'll be a daddy's girl. I have a feeling they are going to gang up on me."

How does Ivanka Trump feel about raising the youngest heiress to the Trump fortune? She says cautiously, "We have our work cut out for us to ensure that our daughter is grounded and not spoiled."

Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner welcomed their first child into the world -- a baby girl named Arabella Rose.

Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump is going to be one busy mama. Aside from being a kick-ass business mogul and Celebrity Apprentice judge, she's now a new mom.

Ivanka Trump and hubby Jared Kushner welcomed their bouncing baby girl Arabella Rose into the world on Sunday and the proud parents couldn't wait to share the news with loyal fans.

Ivanka Trump tweeted, "This morning @jaredkushner and I welcomed a beautiful and healthy little baby girl into the world. We feel incredibly grateful & blessed. Thank you all for your support and well wishes!"

We are pretty sure the newest girl in the Trump family will be doted on by one big man in the clan -- grandpa Donald Trump!

Back when she first announced she was expecting, Ivanka Trump told Harper's Bazaar, "My dad was joking the other day how he's going to have a new favorite little girl. He's over the moon, he's so excited. He'll be wonderful, but not as a classic, hands-on, 'Let me take the child for the weekend' type."

This is the first child for Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, who acts as the publisher for The New York Observer. The couple has been married since October of 2009.

Congratulations go out to Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and, of course, Donald Trump on the birth of Arabella Rose.

Ivanka Trump accused of ripping off Derek Lam design

Ivanka Trump's shoe collection is about to lose one design, if Derek Lam has anything to say about it.

Ivanka Trump accused of plagiarism

It's so hard being a celebrity designer — you know, having other people design your collection for you. All that hands-off work can come back to bite celebrities in the rear, though. Ivanka Trump is finding that out the hard way: She's being accused of ripping off a shoe design from mega-designer Derek Lam.

According to Women's Wear Daily, one of Lam's designers came across the Cadie wedge sandals from the Ivanka Trump shoe collection while shopping on Bloomingdales.com. The designer noticed the shoe looks exactly like Lam's Ayami wedge and notified the higher-ups in the company.

The shoes do look remarkably similar.

Lam's lawyers sent Donald Trump's daughter a cease and desist letter Wednesday, giving her company and licensee Marc Fisher Footwear seven days to pull the shoes from shelves.

"We have seen very similar copies before but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied," Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, chief executive officer of Derek Lam, told WWD. "It's such an investment to make a shoe… we had to protest this."

The shoes aren't in a similar price range — Lam's goes for $780, while Trump's costs $150. It's about intellectual property rights, according to Schlottman.

"I actually ordered them, but I haven't received them yet," he said. "I'm sure Ms. Trump doesn't know her wedge is copy because it's through a license."

The Kardashians are also on the defense after a human rights expert accused them of using Chinese sweatshop labor to produce their clothes. Maybe it's time celebrities like Trump and the Kardashians stop lending their names to products they know nothing about.

Donald Trump's little girl and her husband have announced they are pregnant with their second child, but does this mean Ivanka is planning to slow down?

Jared Kushner Ivanka Trump

The Trump princess is ready to welcome another little one into the world. Ivanka Trump and her husband have announced they're expecting their second child.

Trump and her husband Jared Kushner already have a 20-month-old daughter, Arabella Rose.

The family’s life is pretty busy these days. Kushner is the owner of the New York Observer, and Trump is working more and more for her father’s company.

“Expanding the family will make life even more hectic for Ivanka, 31, given her top executive role at The Trump Organization,” according to People. “But she’s found a great balance as a working mother.”

Trump also judges Celebrity Apprentice, alongside her father, but don’t call her a working mother.

“I think the expression ‘working’ versus ‘non-working’ implies that a mother who stays home doesn’t work. It’s far more difficult than anything I do in the office,” she told Redbook recently, according to People.

Celebrity pregnancies>>

Trump said she has made her decisions to work as much as she does, but she does think it helps rather than hurts her family.

“Every morning I’m so sad to leave Arabella,” she said. “But it’s important for me to continue what I’m doing. It’s fulfilling to me, and I think it makes me a better mom when I’m home.”

Trump knows it not only helps her own growing family, but also her Trump family.

“Now that my brothers and I work with [our father, Donald Trump], we’ve become even closer,” she told Redbook. “If we talked a lot before, we speak 50 times a day now. I spend half the time in his office. It’s wild.”

Trump said her father is a doting grandfather, and loves to babysit her daughter. But he won’t do so alone.

“@ddlovato Apple! Check out who was on my flight!” tweeted Paltrow, who included this photo of the two smiling together.

“So nice to meet you!! “ Lovato tweeted back.
